About the Artist (Interview with Josh Peterson)
Tell us about your process.
My process remains traditional—I handshape and build each board from start to finish myself. This hands-on approach keeps a strong connection to my work and makes the entire process enjoyable.
When did you shape your first board?
I shaped my first board at 16 or 17 years old in my backyard, reshaping an old surfboard into a mini Simmons style.
Do you consider yourself a craftsman, an artist, or both?
Shaping is a balanced mix of craftsmanship and art for me. It involves mathematical precision as well as creative freedom. Surfboards are a unique medium that can be approached both numerically and artistically.
Why collaborate with Ghost Ship?
This collaboration has been an incredible project centered around a place that has greatly influenced my life. It’s a privilege to honor that connection and create boards alongside Andy.
How does working between Outer Banks and Oahu influence your boards?
Splitting time between these locations allows me to work seasonally in ideal conditions, maintaining a consistent creative flow and excitement for each season.
Where is your happy place?
My happy place is anytime spent in the water surfing with friends.
